November

In the month of November, we have been learning and exploring through old fashion pretend play center as we learn about how things were long ago versus now. Students have been practicing cooking food over a fire, using a wash board to wash clothes, and building a home from long ago (made of logs). In our usual housekeeping center, students have been pretending to cook on the stove and wash clothes in the washing machine like we do today. In math, we began our counting unit and practiced counting with stories like Bear Counts and Animals at the Zoo. Students had fun exploring numbers, counting out various objects, and counting to tell how many. In ELA we read "The Pioneer Village" and "Long Ago or Today?" as we worked to identify key details and main topics, identify illustrations and information from a text, and retell parts of a story. We continued practicing letter identification and letter sounds, as well as learning sight words. In Letterland, we visited Golden Girl (g), Noisy Nick (n), Impy Ink (i), and Mr. O (long o). In writing, we practiced sharing information about pumpkins, things from long ago or today, and Thanksgiving. We are excited to wrap up the month with our class Thanksgiving celebration!
