October Recap


We are enjoying Fall in LTA 1! In pretend play, we explored forces in motion through an apple orchard and pumpkin patch set-up. Students enjoyed fall activities of piling up leaves, picking/pulling apples off the tree, pushing the apple cider cart, and sorting pumpkins. In science, we utilized our pretend play center to reinforce classification of objects by size, shape, and color. In literacy we read "Taj's Science Fair Project" and "The Apple Test". During our stories, we worked to identify key details and objects that paired with the books we were reading. We visited more Letterland characters this month and learned new sight words. In Letterland we visited Dippy Duck (d), Harry Hatman (h), Munching Mike (m), Talking Tess (t), and Sammy Snake (s). In math, we focused on all things shapes and practiced counting too.  We worked on identifying shapes, sorting shapes of the same orientation, and putting two parts of a shape together to create a whole shape. In writing, we wrote about our opinions on various things like what apples we think taste the best and what is most fun on the playground.  In specials, we have enjoyed visiting Bogie the dog, meeting our Frankie Friends, starting music class, having a nature group visit with animals, and continuing movement, library, and keyboarding. We are looking forward to all of our Fall festivities in the month of November!

September Recap

  Our kindergarten and 1st graders have been hard at work learning our classroom routines and rules this month! In social studies we talked a lot about rules, expectations, and reviewed emergency drills. In literacy, we have been learning our letters and sight words, as well as beginning to learn about word families. We have practiced attending to books read aloud in small groups; we read stories from our curriculum titled "We Work Together" and "What Should We Do?". In math, we worked on identifying basic shapes and categorizing data - involving size, color, object and shape. In writing, we are working on stating our opinions and coloring pictures that relate to what we write about. We have had a blast exploring our classroom centers, including our pretend play lemonade stand. It has been so fun to learn everyone's personalities and watch them learn how to play and socialize together. We are excited for all of the fun to come throughout the rest of this school ...

February Recap

  In the month of February, students learned about non-living and living things through our zoo pretend play center. In science we compared and learned about the needs of plants, animals, and people. In ELA, students practiced identifying key points in stories, comparing familiar texts, and identifying a text as telling a story as we read "Where Is My Baby?" and "At the Petting Zoo". Our sight words this month were here, said, up, and we. We practiced segmenting and blending sounds in words with CVC words. In writing, students practiced writing about simple facts, such as, what color Bogie the dog is and how it feels cold in the winter. In math, students continued to work on number identification and counting as they began composing and decomposing. We composed and decomposed sets of 5 and 10 through singing 5 Little Monkeys, 5 Green Frogs, and reading The Hungry Frog while using number bonds.
